Citizens in the State have been urged to adopt PNG as a safe, convenient, and affordable cooking fuel option by the authorities. Highlighting roboust gas network in the State in various parts, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection, Govind Singh Rajput said that Government of Madhya Pradesh is aggressively expanding the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network across the State to provide another better fuel option. Consumers should switch to Modern Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections instead of traditional LPG cylinders in areas where the PNG network is available. He noted that, driven by the State Government’s development-oriented policies, over 3.88 lakh PNG connections have been established in the State to date.

Additionally, 433 CNG stations for vehicles have also been made operational. With a continuous supply of gas at low pressure through underground pipelines, the hassle of handling or replacing heavy cylinders is eliminated. Since natural gas is lighter than air, it dissipates rapidly into the atmosphere in the event of a leak, minimising the risk of fire. 24x7 uninterrupted supply and accurate billing: Through the ‘no-book, no-wait’ facility, consumers receive a continuous, direct supply. Similar to electricity billing, users pay only for their actual consumption (based on metering). Economic savings: In terms of energy cost per unit, PNG is more affordable than traditional LPG.

Environmental and health safety: The use of clean fuel prevents the accumulation of smoke or pollution within homes, thereby ensuring better indoor air quality. Momentum from State CGD Policy 2025 The Food Minister stated that the ‘Madhya Pradesh City Gas Distribution (CGD) Network Development and Expansion Policy 2025,’ implemented on February 14, 2025, is yielding positive results. Ten CGD entities are working rapidly across 25 geographical areas that encompass all 55 districts of the State. To ensure transparency and swift execution, time-bound clearances - such as District Magistrate No Objection Certificates and Right of Use permissions - are being issued through a single-window system. Maintaining both PNG and LPG connections simultaneously is not permitted. Consumers must surrender their LPG connection within 30 days of the installation of their PNG connection. In areas where PNG is not yet available, consumers may obtain a Transfer Voucher for future use.
