HC questions Wardha-Jam shift of proposed medical college
The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has questioned the State Government over the proposed relocation of the Government Medical
College and Hospital from Wardha to Jam. “Roads can be constructed by acquiring private land. Is there no land available for a hospitals,” the Court orally remarked.
The PIL was heard on Monday before Justices Anil Kilor and Rajnish Vyas. The Court also asked the government about the distance between Wardha and Jam after the proposed shift.
Vicky Mahendra Sawai, founding president of Veer Ashok Samrat Sanghatana, has filed the petition.
He is opposing the relocation of the proposed medical college. Sawai has sought the establishment of a 430-bed Government Medical College and Hospital at Sathoda in Wardha district.
According to the petitioner, the medical college was first proposed in Wardha city. It was later shifted to Hinganghat and subsequently to Jam.
The petitioner has challenged the Government Resolution issued on February 5, 2024. Through the order, the State Government decided to shift the proposed medical college from Wardha to Jam.
Sawai has been opposing the relocation since 2022. He has sought a stay on the government’s decision. Sawai appeared in person before the Court. Advocate Shishir Uke represented the State Government.
