When the Dandiya sticks start clicking and Garba beats fill the air, fashion becomes a part of the celebration too. This Navratri, Garba enthusiasts are giving traditional Gujarati-inspired outfits a stylish makeover. Fresh trends are making their way into Garba and Dandiya nights.
For girls, long-cord blouses are emerging as a statement trend, adding drama and movement to the traditional chaniya choli. Another interesting addition is the neck patch - an embellished, jewellery-like piece worn around the neck over a simple kurta or top.
It can instantly elevate even a plain outfit without heavy embroidery or an elaborate ensemble.
Waist belts are also becoming a popular styling accessory, adding definition to chaniya cholis, lehengas and even fusion outfits while giving them a more structured and contemporary look. Vicky Jain, a Garba dress shop owner,
shared that colourful mirror-work belts and embroidered designs are particularly suited to the festive mood. Boys too are acing the styles and moving beyond regular kurta-pyjama. Embroidered jackets, colourful kediyas and layered kurtas are giving traditional outfits a modern edge. Some are also opting for coordinated jackets and kurtas to stand out during group Garba nights.
Meanwhile, practicality is becoming fashionable. Phone-holding cords and straps are gaining popularity among both girls and boys, allowing them to keep their phones secure while dancing. Small pouches and waist accessories are also being paired with festive outfits. The influence of Gujarat’s vibrant Garba culture is clearly visible, but Nagpurians are adding their own stylish twist. From coordinated group outfits to fusion styling, this year’s Garba fashion is about looking festive, staying comfortable and making a statement on the dance floor. After all, a perfect Garba night is not just about the steps and music, but also about getting the festive look just right.
