THE Indian Air Force (IAF) has
agreed to immediately transfer
a portion of land owned by it for
the construction of a new terminal building at the Nagpur airport, Maharashtra Chief Minister
Devendra Fadnavis said on
Wednesday.
The land area is approximately
288.84 acre. During his visit to
New Delhi, Fadnavis met
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh
and sought the transfer of 27
acres of the IAF land to the State
Government for the construction of a new terminal building
at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar
International Airport in Nagpur.
Talking to reporters later,
Fadnavis said the meeting was
‘very positive’ and the IAF has
agreed to hand over a portion of
the land required for construction of the terminal building
immediately.
“The Air Force has
said the land required for construction of the terminal will be
handed over to us immediately.
For the remaining portion, they
will undertake the required construction and subsequently hand
over that portion to us,” he said.
Fadnavis stated that the IAF
also agreed to provide special
permission for movement of
heavy machinery in the airport
area, where helicopter parking
and other Air Force activities are
currently carried out. Union
Minister Nitin Gadkari, the Lok
Sabha MP from Nagpur, also participated in the meeting virtually, he commented. With land
transfer and other permissions
in place, the way has now been
cleared for taking forward the
terminal building work at Nagpur
airport, Fadnavis stated.
