THE City Congress staged massive protest at Collectorate against police action during a demonstration by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other INDIA bloc leaders, on Thursday. Wearing black clothes and black bands, Congressmen raised slogans in support of Rahul Gandhi and alleged that the government is trying to suppress the voice of the Opposition. City Congress President Saurabh Sharma alleged that serious questions are being raised over the election process and the accountability of the Election Commission. He said the government and Election Commission should answer these questions instead of using police action against opposition leaders.

Sharma alleged that the police are being used to suppress the democratic rights of opposition leaders and Congress workers. He said Rahul Gandhi was raising issues related to voting rights and democracy. He said the Congress wanted transparency on all issues related to elections and electoral rolls. The party would continue to raise these issues through democratic means, he added. Sharma said the protest was not against any individual but for the protection of the Constitution, democratic institutions, transparency in the electoral process and the voting rights of citizens.
