Staff Reporter :
AIR connectivity from Jabalpur
to major cities continues to
shrink despite the recent expansion and modernisation of
Dumna Airport. In the latest
setback, IndiGo has decided to
discontinue its regular flight
from Jabalpur to Hyderabad via
Indore from October 24.
The route has not been included in the airline’s upcoming winter schedule. The flight is the only
direct air service connecting
Jabalpur and Indore. A large
number of passengers use the
service for travel between the
two cities.
According to information
available, the airline is taking the
decision due to maintenance
requirements of the 78-seat ATR
aircraft operating on the route.
At the same time, preparations
are reportedly underway to operate a larger 186 seat aircraft
on the JabalpurHyderabad route.
T h e
withdrawal of
the service will make
travel between Jabalpur and
Indore more difficult.
The two
cities are important commercial
centres of Madhya Pradesh. Air
travel allowed passengers to cover the distance in around two
hours. After the service is withdrawn, passengers will have to
depend on road and rail services.
Travel and aviation sector
observers said the loss of quick
air connectivity could
affect tourism, education, medical travel and
business activities
between the two cities.
Business travellers, in particular depend on faster connectivity to save time.
Aviation experts said frequent
withdrawal of flights is a concern,
especially after major investment
in the modernisation of Dumna
Airport. They suggested that
instead of completely withdrawing the service, the airline
could explore alternative routes.
The move has once again
raised concerns over the availability of regular air services from
Jabalpur despite the development of the airport.
