Various events were organised by Lions International District 3234-H-1 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti Week between October 2 and 8. As a part of these initiative and on the auspicious occasion of Pitru Paksha week, Lions Club Nagpur Heritage organised a food distribution drive at AIIMS Hospital, Mihan, for poor and needy patients as well as their relatives. This drive was led and initiated by Vivek Pratap and Sudhir Wadalkar.
The Annamrita Foundation, popularly known as the ‘ISKCON Food Relief Foundation, has its kitchen at Ramanuj Nagar, Kalamna Market in the city. The organisation prepares food and provides nutritious meals free of cost to hospitals, institutions, and needy school children.
On this occasion, Lions Club Nagpur Heritage ordered prepared meals from the Annamrita Foundation and distributed it to poor, needy patients and their relatives visiting AIIMS Hospital, Mihan for treatment. The meal included dal-rice, vegetable curry with roti and kheer.
Around 250 patients and their relatives benefited from this food drive. Club President Vijaya Vaidyeshkar, Secretary Mrudula Hedau, Vivek Pratap, Sudhir Wadalkar, and Service Week Chairperson Sunil Joshi distributed meals to needy men, women, and patients’ families. Expressions of deep satisfaction were visible on the faces of the beneficiaries following the distribution. Many patients visit AIIMS for treatment from various villages across Vidarbha. While managing medical expenses, it often becomes difficult for their families to afford additional costs for meals and accommodation. This initiative was undertaken with the aim of supporting the families of such needy patients.
The food distribution took place in the presence of First Vice District Governor Dr Arun Chaturvedi and Service Week Chairperson Sunil Joshi. Club President Vijaya Vaidyeshkar, Secretary Mrudula Hedau, Club Administrator Vivek Pratap, Public Relations Officer Pramod Hedau, Milind Gulhane, Sudhir Wadalkar, Sunil Mahurkar, Shashikant Waghmare, Manjusha Diwate, Atul Diwate, and staff members of the Annamrita Foundation were present.
