The stage is set for one of the biggest academic tests of the year. The Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) has announced the half-yearly examination schedule for Classes 9 to 12 in all Government and Government-aided schools across Madhya Pradesh, with the first paper just 17 days away.
As per the revised timetable issued, the examinations will be held in two separate shifts this year. Classes 11 and 12 will take the lead, with their exams commencing on November 18. Their papers will be held in the afternoon shift from 2 pm to 5 pm. Classes 9 and 10 will follow from November 21, appearing in the morning shift from 10 am to 1 pm.
The Department has also issued strict new guidelines for the exam days. Students must reach their examination centre 30 minutes before the start of the paper. Answer sheets will be distributed 10 minutes early, while question papers will be given five minutes before the bell, giving students time to read and plan. The vacant shift, officials say, will be used for preparation for the next day’s paper.
However, behind the timetable lies a serious challenge. A recent
official review has found that only about 50%-60% of the syllabus has been completed in most schools so far.
The pressure has intensified because of a tight academic calendar, with schools losing crucial teaching days to the Dussehra holidays from October 19 to 21 and the Diwali break from November 6 to 10.
Taking note of the lag, the School Education Department has directed all District Education Officers to conduct extra classes and intensive revision drives. Teachers have been asked to complete the pending syllabus in record time, with special focus on weak students, particularly in Mathematics, Science and English.
Schools have also been instructed that examinations will be held even if a public or local holiday is declared, and practical examinations for remaining subjects will be conducted at the school level between November 21 and 30.
With preparations now in full swing at the school level, students have been advised to use the remaining days wisely and complete their revision on time.
