The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) has implemented road safety measures on the main road in the MIDC Butibori area following an initiative by the Nagpur Rural Police. The move comes after six people died in road accidents on the 4.1-km stretch between January and August 2026. Ongoing construction work had created safety risks for motorists and other road users. The issue gained further attention after Sagar Padmakar Lokhande died in a bus accident on September 23, 2026. Butibori Police Station registered a case. During the investigation, police found that necessary safety measures had not been taken.

The project manager of construction company G. R. Infraprojects Limited and the bus driver were named as accused. Taking note of the repeated accidents, Nagpur Rural Police, under the guidance of Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Harssh A Poddar, approached the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to address the issues. With help from road safety experts, the police inspected the road and assessed the risks. They recommended proper barricades, better traffic management, reflective markers for night visibility, safety barriers and warning and directional signs. The police also asked the authorities to identify and address risks arising from ongoing construction work. Following repeated follow-ups by SP Dr Poddar, Maha-Metro acted on recommendations and completed the suggested safety improvements. SP Dr Poddar said that the initiative aims to reduce accidents and make the busy industrial road safer for motorists and other road users.
