Angry residents block Godhani Road for four hours n Road blockade led to three-km traffic jam
A Diwali shopping trip turned tragic for a family after a speeding tipper truck knocked down a woman and killed her on-the-spot on Godhani Road on Tuesday evening. Her husband and six-year-old son were injured in the accident.
The deceased has been identified as Ashwini Pankaj Phalke, a resident of Bailwadi. The accident occurred at around 5 pm within the jurisdiction of Mankapur Police Station.
Ashwini was out for Diwali shopping with her husband, Pankaj, and their six-year-old son, Advik. The family was heading from Godhani towards Zingabai Takli when a goods-carrying tipper truck hit them.
The impact was severe, and Ashwini died on-the-spot. Her husband and son sustained injuries and were taken for medical treatment.
The accident triggered anger among local residents and villagers. An angry crowd vandalised the truck and blocked Godhani Road, demanding action against the driver.
The protest led to a tense situation, forcing senior police and administrative officials rush to the spot.
The blockade continued for nearly four hours. Long queues of vehicles stretched for around three kilometres on both sides of the road. Traffic remained disrupted as police struggled to pacify the protesters.
The incident also raised questions about traffic management and police arrangements during the festive season, when roads and markets witness heavy movement.
Mankapur Police have arrested the truck driver, Sheikh Jamil Sheikh Jamal (45), in connection with the accident.
Further investigation is underway.
