TURNING her rooftop into a source of clean energy and financial savings, Anita Sharma, a resident of Rama Green City, has brought her household electricity bill down to zero by installing solar panels under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Yojana. Sharma said that earlier she had to pay a fixed amount every month towards electricity consumption. Following the installation of rooftop solar panels under the scheme, her household’s electricity requirements are now being met entirely through solar energy, eliminating her monthly electricity bill. The benefits extend beyond savings on power consumption. Whenever the solar power system generates electricity in excess of the household’s requirements, the surplus is fed back into the electricity grid.

This enables consumers to derive additional financial benefits from the power generated by rooftop installations. Sharing her experience, Sharma said that utilising the available rooftop space for clean energy generation had proved to be a rewarding experience. She encouraged other households to learn about the scheme and adopt rooftop solar systems to reduce their dependence on conventional electricity. Under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Yojana, Government provides subsidies ranging from Rs 30,000 to Rs 78,000, while the State Government offers an additional subsidy of up to Rs 30,000. Consumers can register to avail the scheme’s benefits through the ‘PM Suryaghar’ web portal or mobile application.
