Unveils 88-Vibhag overhaul as Shakhas near one lakh

losing its Centenary-year review, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Wednesday announced a nationwide campaign against drug abuse among youth, a major organisational restructuring, and an expansion of its grassroots network. Addressing the press after the three-day Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal meeting at Daly College here, Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale claimed the Sangh now runs 99,423 daily shakhas, up 12,025 in a year. He said its work has reached 1,03,397 locations, including 63,208 shakha locations. Weekly milans stand at 34,982 and monthly mandalis at 14,096. Hosabale said the Centenary year drew unprecedented participation. He claimed 65,664 Hindu Sammelans attracted 4.93 crore people from 3,08,449 villages. Volunteers contacted 10.22 crore households across 4,63,340 villages and 41,825 urban bastis. Youth outreach included 57,243 programmes, involving 31.26 lakh college students and 6.90 lakh working youth.

The most urgent concern, he said, was drugs. While law enforcement must act against narcotics networks, the Sangh will partner with NGOs for awareness, counselling and family support. The problem, he warned, is affecting young women too. On organisation, the Sangh will move from 46 prants to 88 vibhags after elections of prant sanghchalaks in November-December. This is a restructuring, not creation of new posts, he clarified. Hosabale backed reservation until social equality is achieved, and supported Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls to remove dead, duplicate and non-citizen names. On Gen-Z protests, he said youth anger must be heard through dialogue, but regime change must come only through elections, not violence or anarchy. He urged families to spend time away from mobile phones and stressed values over law alone to check obscene content online. The meeting also issued statements marking the 100th birth anniversary of Swami Lakshmanananda Saraswati, the martyrdom centenary of Swami Shraddhanand and the 200th birth anniversary of Rajnarayan Basu.
