St Aloysius School A legacy that keeps moving forward

Rev Father VV Davies

Under Principal Fr V V Davies, the historic institution is building on its heritage with new initiatives in early learning and technology. What began in 1868 with six orphan boys and a founder’s conviction has grown into one of Madhya Pradesh’s most respected schools. St. Aloysius Senior Secondary School, established by Fr. Amedee Delalex MSFS, is owned by the Catholic Diocese of Jabalpur and run by the Jabalpur Diocesan Educational Society. The school’s history is a story of steady growth. Its primary section won government recognition in 1873 and its middle school in 1884. The grand main building, designed by Bro Alexis Voisin, was blessed by Bishop Coppel on October13, 1915. The Old Boys Association was formed in 1932.

The school became a Higher Secondary institution in 1965, gained CBSE affiliation in 1994, and opened its doors to girls in 1997. Today, that legacy is being carried forward with fresh energy. Fr V V Davies took charge as Principal in June 2024, and the school has since introduced a Nursery class in 2025 to give its youngest learners a strong start. The computer laboratories across the Primary, Middle and High School sections have also been renovated and upgraded, and a new ‘D’ section has been added from Classes I to X.

Academics, however, are only part of the picture. The school’s guiding aim is the all-round growth of every child, intellectual, physical, moral, social and spiritual, inspired by the ideal of “men and women for and with others.” Values such as justice, compassion, critical thinking and respect for human dignity shape daily school life, with a special sensitivity towards the underprivileged. As St Aloysius looks ahead, its purpose remains what it has always been: to shape character, nurture values and prepare young people to become capable, caring citizens of tomorrow.
