An 18-year-old youth was stabbed to death in broad daylight outside the juvenile observation home in the Mana police station area on Wednesday evening, allegedly over an old dispute. Three juveniles in conflict with the law have been taken into custody in connection with the murder. The deceased has been identified as Sawan Sen, son of Agrasen Sen and a resident of Ashwini Nagar in the Purani Basti area of Raipur. According to police, Sawan visited the juvenile observation home in Mana between 4 pm and 4.10 pm on Wednesday, accompanied by six family members. He had gone to meet an acquaintance lodged there in connection with a previous murder case. As Sawan stepped out of the observation home’s main gate, three juveniles allegedly waiting outside surrounded him and launched a knife attack. They subsequently fled, leaving him seriously injured.

After receiving information, the 112 emergency response team and Mana police reached the spot. Sawan was rushed by ambulance to Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, popularly known as Mekahara, where doctors declared him dead due to excessive blood loss. During questioning, the three detained juveniles allegedly revealed that the murder was motivated by an old dispute. All three reportedly reside in Dewar Basti, under the jurisdiction of Saraswati Nagar police station. According to police, around three months ago, Sawan had allegedly attacked one of the juveniles, identified as the main accused in the present case, with a knife in the Purani Basti police station area. The incident reportedly led to a longstanding enmity, with the juveniles allegedly planning to take revenge. On Wednesday, after learning that Sawan had arrived at the Mana juvenile observation home, the three allegedly planned the attack and carried it out outside the facility. Mana police have registered a case and initiated further legal proceedings. The three juveniles are being processed for presentation before the Juvenile Justice Board.
