Maharashtra State Biodiversity Board (MSBB), in collaboration with the Nagpur Forest Division, organised a bird-watching session at Ambazari Biodiversity Park on Wednesday to mark Bird Week 2026. Around 134 students from Classes Fifth to Tenth of Centre Point Convent School, Butibori, participated in the session, which aimed to familiarise them with bird diversity, habitats and conservation. Dr Bharat Singh Hada, Member Secretary, MSBB, attended as the chief guest. Poonam Pate, Director, Maharashtra Gene Bank, and forest officials, including Rupali Sawant, Divisional Forest Officer, were also present. Students spotted Whiskered Terns and Brown-headed Gulls, along with other wetland-associated birds.

Dragonflies and damselflies were also observed. Guided trails were conducted in smaller groups to encourage responsible bird-watching and minimise disturbance to wildlife. The session also included interactive activities, educational material and question-and-answer session. Certificates, souvenirs and books were distributed to participants. Bird Week commemorates ornithologist Maruti Chitampalli’s birth anniversary on November 5 and concludes on November 12, the birth anniversary of Dr Salim Ali.
