The stage is set for the highly anticipated and auspicious occasion of Dhanteras falling on November 6, with jewellers bracing for an overwhelming response from eager buyers. Local sarafa bazar traders are estimating a massive total turnout, eyeing a business turnover of approximately Rs 200 crore as favourable market conditions drive festive footfalls.
A key factor fueling this retail optimism is the recent drop in precious metal rates, which has reignited consumer interest across the district. On Thursday, 24-karat gold was trading at Rs 1,45,900 per 10 grams (excluding 3 per cent GST), while silver stood at Rs 1,94,300 per kilogram in the city’s bullion market. it is important to note that during Dhanteras in 2025 (October 18, 2025), gold rates in Nagpur were around Rs 1.28 lakh per 10 grams (excluding GST) while silver was recorded at Rs 1,90,000 per kg.
Given the potential for future price escalation, buyers are viewing current rates as a prime opportunity to lock in purchases.
To capitalise on the festive momentum and accommodate the high demand, jewellers across the district have made elaborate preparations. Showrooms have been upgraded with dedicated customer lounges, streamlined billing counters, and enhanced security arrangements to handle the rush smoothly.
Industry leaders highlight that the current pricing trend is driving both ceremonial and strategic buying. Rajesh Rokde, Chairman of the All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC), noted that the reasonable price levels of gold and silver are pulling in large crowds. He emphasized that apart from regular festive token purchases, a significant number of consumers are buying wedding jewellery well in advance to avoid anticipated price spikes in the coming months.
To pull in shoppers, merchants have unveiled attractive promotional schemes, primarily featuring significant discounts and special offers on making charges. Showrooms are also showcasing fresh, contemporary collections tailored for modern preferences. Recognising changing consumer habits, jewellers have expanded their light-weight jewellery segments - introducing intricate daily-wear gold pieces, modern laser-cut patterns, minimalist diamond-studded ornaments, and trendy silver artifacts. These versatile, light-weight designs allow budget-conscious shoppers and younger buyers to celebrate the auspicious day without compromising on aesthetic appeal.
With robust preparations and high buyer sentiment, the bullion market is set for a sparkling Dhanteras season.
