The Higher Education Department of Madhya Pradesh has adopted a stringent stance regarding the escalating controversies surrounding Professor Rajesh Kumar Verma, Vice-Chancellor, Rani Durgavati University (RDU).
Acting on formal complaints received from the Governor’s Secretariat and the Public Service Management Department, the State Government has directed the Divisional Commissioner of Jabalpur to submit a comprehensive point-wise factual report along with explicit recommendations at the earliest.
The official directive for initiating this investigative protocol was formally issued by Ram Kumar Yadav, Under Secretary of the Higher Education Department.
The controversy intensified after the RDU Non-Teaching Employees Association and various student organisations submitted a memorandum to the Governor on June 20, demanding the imposition of Section 52 within the university alongside a high-level inquiry.
Following this petition, Sunil Dubey, Deputy Secretary at Raj Bhavan, formally communicated with the Additional Chief Secretary of Higher Education on July 22 to ensure necessary actions were taken. The current grievances outline multiple allegations against
Professor Verma, including irregularities concerning his appointment and matters related to an ongoing Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe, prompting petitioners to demand his immediate removal.
Furthermore, students representations submitted to Raj Bhavan highlighted that a writ petition remains actively pending before Madhya Pradesh High Court against Professor Verma.
Critics argued that maintaining his administrative office despite multiple active judicial proceedings undermines institutional integrity. The memorandum additionally alleged that personal associations with prominent political figures have insulated the Vice-Chancellor from administrative accountability. The Jabalpur Divisional Commissioner is now tasked with evaluating these diverse claims to establish factual accuracy for the State Government.
