The Kachipura redevelopment issue is likely to be taken up by the Maharashtra Cabinet after Diwali, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari indicated on Friday while interacting with mediapersons at his Mahal residence. A redevelopment project has been proposed for Kachipura, which envisages the development of a badminton court, swimming pool and other public amenities, along with a business complex on the land. Five days ago, Gadkari had convened a meeting of officials at his residence to discuss various issues related to the proposed project. On the progress of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) centre at Wathoda, Gadkari said he was willing to take up the project, but it was getting delayed for some reason.

“We will try to give it momentum,” he assured. Expressing grief over the accident on Godhani Road, Gadkari said he had earlier proposed widening of the road. “Had the road been sufficiently wide, the accident would not have taken place,” he remarked. Coming down strongly on encroachments on footpaths, Gadkari said the Nagpur Municipal Corporation's anti-encroachment squad should not return seized material to vendors. “Once the material is seized, it should not be returned. If enforcement is strict, the civic body will be able to remove encroachments completely,” he pointed out.
