The city’s bullion market witnessed an extraordinary festive rush on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras, with almost all jewellers across the district experiencing heavy customer footfall throughout the day.
Fueled by favourable market sentiment and attractive promotional offers, the festive enthusiasm translated into non-stop buying activity from early morning until late into the evening. While exact sales figures for total business turnover remain unconfirmed, leading trade insiders and jewellers across the city predict that overall sales on the day likely touched the targeted Rs 200 crore mark.
To cater to the massive influx of buyers, showrooms across key commercial areas adapted swiftly. Showrooms in popular shopping destinations as well as traditional jewellery hub - the historic Sarafa Bazar in Itwari - opened much earlier than usual.
To accommodate the continuous rush of buyers seeking auspicious purchases during favourable muhurat timings, shops remained bustling with activity well past normal operating hours. Shopping trends reflected strong customer interest across multiple categories.
While traditional gold jewellery retained its status as the top pick for ceremonial and upcoming wedding purchases, shoppers also displayed a sharp demand for gold coins as preferred festive investments. Beyond gold, counters selling silver items witnessed equal fervor. Many jewellers told ‘The Hitavada’ that there was overwhelming response to silver ornaments and utensils mainly because of its falling prices.
Buyers enthusiastically bought silver ornaments, artistic silver idols, and traditional silver utensils, which are traditionally considered auspicious investments on Dhanteras day.
The surge in sales was largely driven by a recent softening in precious metal prices compared to peak rates earlier in the season, encouraging both budget shoppers and heavy investors to make major purchases. Jewellers noted that early planning by consumers for the upcoming wedding season provided a major push, as families took advantage of existing prices to lock in their purchases ahead of expected
future price escalation. Special promotional incentives, including reduced making charges, bundled offers, and extensive range expansions in lightweight and modern daily-wear segments, further helped attract younger and value-conscious shoppers. Overall sentiment across the Sarafa Bazar in Itwari and prominent jewellery showrooms across other commercial areas of the city remained overwhelmingly positive, marking one of the strongest Dhanteras trading sessions in recent years.
