Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh bought 151 earthen lamps from a woman selling diyas on the roadside, ahead of Diwali. Through this gesture, he gave a message of supporting local businesses and promoting traditional products.
Instead of shopping at a large showroom or mall, the Mayor stopped at her small roadside shop and purchased the lamps. Ram Bai was happy to receive the support and blessed the Mayor.
The Mayor urged people to adopt swadeshi products and help the country grow. He appealed citizens to buy earthen lamps and other locally made products during the festival. He also urged them to avoid Chinese and other foreign decorative lights and products. He added that buying products made by local artisans would support their families and strengthen the local economy. He said the potters and artisans who make traditional lamps are an important part of the country’s cultural heritage. Supporting them would help bring the joy of Diwali to their homes as well. He urged citizens to follow ‘Vocal for Local’ drive and support local traders and artisans.
