How much time does Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis gets to visit his constituency -- South-West Nagpur? Not much. He had that guilt since 2014-- not for votes, but for the people who consider him their leader. Two years ago, an idea stuck him and accordingly, he bestowed the responsibility to his trusted warrior and friend Sunil Mitra. Mitra made his dream true through the office in Pratap Nagar chowk. It is catering to the daily needs of people everyday. This office takes care of people’s health, provides free legal advice, helps divyangs, helps in updating people’s aadhaar card, get ration cards, election cards, licenses and what not.
One names the work and the office has all arrangements to extend a supporting hand to the needy. Mitra humbly says, “I am the only salaried person. Rest all come here, serve people everyday, just for Devabhau, right from our Dubedidi whom we call Annapurna, who keeps preparing poha, tea, kaccha chivda for the visitors. It touches me. We ensure that those who visit should not go empty stomach.”
When people come to seek help, they are welcomed in a nice manner. Their details are registered, they are asked what help they need, accordingly the reception directs them to the desk concerned.
“To avoid chaos, we have prepared a timetable and accordingly on the specific days we provide that particular service. Suppose we provide health services on Tuesday, so people know if they need any health-related help, they would come on Tuesday. Of course emergency is exception. Here a team of doctors come, check the patients and advice them further treatment if needed.
Our team helps the patients to get covered under various health schemes. The people visit here obviously are needy, so we try to get them enough fund under Chief Minister Relief Fund or under other schemes,” said Mitra.
Till now, the office has helped over 2 lakh needy in last two years. Those who have entrusted with the responsibility do it with dedication.
Ritesh Gawande, Shreya Patil take care of the office when Mitra is not available. There is a team of 15 people which visit office daily, stay there till 5 pm during which they keep attending people from various corner of South-West Nagpur.
Senior citizens bless
CM Fadnavis
There are several senior citizen couples who were never approached by anyone for any work. They live without their children. But people from South-West BJP office reach them, enquire, provide whichever help they needed. Some of the couples were such who stopped venturing out for various reasons. Now, they bless Chief Minister.
Will other MLAs
take a cue?
Every MLA in State should take a cue from the functioning of BJP’s South-West Nagpur constituency office. Whether the MLA meet them or not, but his/her office should always be there to serve people of his/her constituency.
According to some analysts, no party or MLA has such an office. Devendra Fadnavis, due to his several responsibilities, is not able to meet every person of his constituency, but his office makes it a point that people do not feel neglected. Through a postal letter Fadnavis keeps in touch with the persons in grief and in their happiness too.
