Sadar Police have arrested another tutor and his accomplice in connection with the Physics and Chemistry paper leak during the Class 12 examinations. With the latest action, the number of accused in the case has risen to four. Both the newly arrested accused have been remanded to police custody till Thursday. The arrested persons have been identified as Mustafa Khan Munir Khan (42), a resident of Bhankheda, and Junaid Mohammad Abdul Javed (20), a resident of Hasanbagh, Nandanvan. According to police, Mustafa runs a coaching centre named Excellence Academy in the Mominpura area, while Junaid works under him.

Tech 1 group on Whatsapp

As per the investigation, Chemistry question paper was circulated on a WhatsApp group before the exam. Police said Mustafa allegedly first shared the paper on a WhatsApp group named “Tech 1.” Later, his accomplice Junaid posted answers to the same paper in the group. A year ago, Nishikant Mool had reportedly come in contact with Mustafa and later shared the leaked content in WhatsApp groups of students attending his own tuition classes. “The accused were actively circulating the question paper and answers through WhatsApp groups linked to tuition classes,” said a Sadar police officer involved in the probe.

Technical evidence to trace accused

The incident surfaced on February 18 when a vigilant supervisor at St. Ursula examination centre noticed the paper on a student’s mobile phone during the Chemistry exam. Following a complaint from the education board, Sadar police registered a case and began an investigation. During questioning, WhatsApp group administrator Nishikant made key disclosures. Police then questioned a student who was part of Mustafa’s ‘Tech 1’ group. Based on her information and technical analysis, the police traced and detained Mustafa and Junaid early Monday morning. “We used technical surveillance and digital evidence to track the accused. Further investigation is underway,” a police official said.

Mystery over source of paper leak

While investigators have confirmed that the paper was circulated by the coaching class operator, the original source of the leak remains unknown. “Where the question paper actually originated from is still a mystery. We are working to identify the main source and possible wider network,” the police added. Both accused were produced before the court and remanded to police custody till February 26. Police said more arrests are possible as the probe continues.
