Agenda also lists co-option of 10 members to House plus nomination to subject committees
A special meet of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) slated for Tuesday, at Suresh Bhat Hall, is going to nominate members to over a dozen subject committees, including all important Standing Committee. The meet, a first for the new Mayor Neeta Thakre, is convened at 11 am. About 16 members will be be nominated to the financial body of the civic body as per the respective party strength, with ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) getting maximum seats.
The next important body is Transport Committee as it pertains to all important management of city bus fleet. The importance is also on account of the budgetary outlay.
As Standing Committee gets to decide on all financial decision pertaining to NMC, the members have the final say on the all the crucial files.
Co-option: The other important item listed on the agenda of the meeting is co-option of 10 members to NMC House.
Till the names are finalised, the would be contenders would remain in tizzy, as in past there has been instance one getting outsmarted at last minute.
The exercise is important for BJP as it has doled out promises of co-option to nip the rebellion on part of some ex-corporators and others for safe guarding its chosen candidates in run upto elections.
Dozen committees: During the meeting, the House is also going to complete the formalities of constituting other statutory committees. These includes the Medical and Health Committee, it is of quite importance given the increasing mandate relating to citizens health in the second capital of state. Also BJP in its manifesto has committed to widening the scope of health infrastructure to meet the needs of citizens.
The other committees whose nominations are to be finalised also include Architecture and Project; Legal; Education; Slums Eradication and House Building; Sports; Women and Child; Water Works; Tax; and Fire Services and Electrical. Around 10 members are nominated on each of these committee, with one later elected as Chairperson in the first meet of the subject committee.
Women to ‘power-up’ NMC in 1st year: BJP
To recognise and also empower the women power, ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to dedicate first year of power in NMC by rewarding its women corporators. Stating this on Monday, Dayashankar Tiwari, President, BJP, Nagpur City Unit, said that it is decided to nominate women as Chairperson of all dozen subject committee in first year.
Similarly, all the chairperson posts in 10 zones of NMC are also going to be helmed by women corporators. Already two important posts in NMC, that of Mayor and Deputy Mayor are already occupied by women corporators.
