unseasonal rains on wee hours of Monday wreaked havoc across Vidarbha. Some parts of Western Vidarbha witnessed another spell of light showers on Monday afternoon as well. The moderate rains on Monday morning, caused water-logging in some parts whereas power-cut doubled the trouble for citizens in many parts of Nagpur. People woke up to a rainy dawn with cool breeze provided them a short relief from rising temperature in the later part of the day. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert and predicted more rains in some parts of Vidarbha including Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Yavatmal and Wardha on Tuesday and Wednesday. According to the Weather Department, Nagpur District may also witness light showers and partly cloudy skies on Tuesday. Other parts of Vidarbha will also witness partly cloudy weather for the next couple of days.
 
“Due to a low pressure area formation over southwest and adjoining areas of central Bay of Bengal (BoB) the region is witnessing rains. A associated cyclonic circulation also extended upto 3.1 km above mean sea level. It is very likely to continue to move nearly northeastwards and weaken gradually during next 24 hours,” claimed a press release issued by IMD on Monday. Nagpur recorded highest 10.9 mm rainfall followed by Bhandara (10 mm) and Gondia (2.4 mm). Other parts of Vidarbha were dry or witnessed light showers. The highest maximum temperature in Vidarbha was observed in Akola (37.5 degrees Celsius) whereas Amravati also reported the day temperature above 37 degrees Celsius. Wardha was third in the list with 36 degrees Celsius whereas Nagpur witnessed dip in maximum temperature by 1 degree due to rains on wee hours of Monday. Washim and Yavatmal recorded the day temperature above 35 degrees Celsius whereas Buldhana and Brahmapuri recorded above 34 degrees Celsius. 
 
Sudden rains cause crop damage 
 
The sudden rains in West and East Vidarbha on wee hours of Monday has led to concerns among farmers and traders. Due to rains, the traders in Kalamna market, born financial losses as hundreds of grain sacks stored in open areas were soaked due to rain. Despite prior weather prediction, the crop protection was not carried out by traders in the market premises. Due to lack of precaution, bags containing tur, wheat and soybean were soaked with rain water. Along with this, water logging and mud were also reported in the market premises which also caused losses to many traders. After this sudden rains, the traders fear quality deterioration of rain soaked products. The impact of the unseasonal rains were also clearly visible on agriculture fields. In West and East Vidarbha, strong winds and rains affected cotton, wheat, and gram crops at many places. Similarly, in many areas, standing crops were flattened due to gusty winds.
 
Power interruption for long hours
 
strong winds and moderate rains on Monday led to power cut at many parts of Nagpur city. South West Nagpur was the most affected constituency as many areas witnessed more than 12 hours of power cut on Monday. Areas like Somalwada, Sonegaon, Chhattrapati Square, Friends Colony, Pratap Nagar, Mankapur, Manish Nagar etc. witnessed interruption in power supply for hours after the rains. The staff from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co Ltd (MSEDCL) were busy throughout the day to restore the power supply in affected areas. 
 
Uprooted trees damage vehicles

The most affected area was Ujjwal Nagar where 4 to 5 full grown trees uprooted due to winds and damaged 3-4 four wheelers parked under the trees. The incidents of uprooting of trees during gusty winds are increasing day by day in city experts believes that the mindless trimming of branches and choking of trees are the main reasons behind it. On Monday, the fire and emergency department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) was busy to remove huge trees over the vehicles and clear the roads for smooth traffic movement. Incident of uprooting of trees were also reported in Manish Nagar, Trimurty Nagar and Vivekanand Nagar also.
