IN a major crackdown on interstate drug trafficking, Chilfi Police seized nearly 900 kilogram of cannabis valued at around Rs 5 crore and arrested a truck driver transporting the contraband from Odisha to Rajasthan. Acting on a specific tip-off, the police intercepted a Nagaland-registered container truck suspected to be carrying illegal narcotics. Upon inspection, officials recovered 30 sacks of cannabis, each weighing approximately 30 kilogram, taking the total haul to about 9 quintal (900 kg).

The seized container vehicle is estimated to be worth around Rs 50 lakh. The accused has been identified as Ayaz Khan, a resident of Bharatpur district in Rajasthan. He has been booked under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police officials said the consignment was being transported across states as part of a larger trafficking network. The accused is being interrogated to ascertain forward and backward linkages in the interstate drug supply chain. The seizure is being viewed as a significant blow to narcotics smuggling operations in the district. Investigations are underway to trace other individuals involved in the network.
