SECOND day of the main draw at MSLTA-NDHTA All India Ranking Super Series Under-16 Tennis tournament had some shocks and surprises with the biggest one coming from Nagpur’s Yug Singhvi.
In the boys singles, Yug (AIR 1150), who came into this tournament as a qualifier, stunned second seed Jeevith S from Karnataka (AIR 47) in three sets with scores reading 6-4, 3-6,
6-3. Yug, who trains at MSLTA Ramnagar, exercised every muscle of his slim body to beat tall and well-built Jeevith.
In the girls singles, third seed Anika Nair from Pune was knocked out by eighth seed Parinitha V from Vizag. Second seed Falak Mehta was challenged by Nagpur’s Surmayee Sathe fifth seed in three sets.
Falak came back from being one set down and took the next two sets.
The remaining seeds sailed through to the semi-finals.
Girls singles semi-finals will be played on Wednesday along with boys singles quarter-finals.
In the doubles event, in both boys and girls groups, the seeded players advanced to the last-eight stage.
