PANIC gripped Bilaspur on Wednesday morning after a bomb threat was received at the High Court of Chhattisgarh.
The threat, reportedly sent via email, prompted immediate action from police and security agencies, who swiftly sealed off entire High Court complex as a precautionary measure. Security was tightened across the premises, with barricades erected and movement of people in and around the court restricted. Police personnel were deployed at strategic locations, including parking areas, entry and exit points, and other sensitive zones. Officers equipped with walkie-talkies, loudhailers and Hand-Held Metal Detectors (HHMD) maintained strict vigil throughout the operation.
Upon receiving the information, teams of local police rushed to the spot along with the bomb disposal squad, dog squad, fire brigade and ambulance services. A meticulous search operation was carried out inside and outside the court complex. Every nook and corner of the premises was thoroughly examined to rule out the presence of any suspicious object. According to officials, heightened vigilance was maintained throughout the day.
Technical and intelligence investigations have been
intensified to trace the origin of the threat email and identify the person responsible. Authorities indicated that similar threatening emails have been sent to several high courts and district courts across the country over the past few months. Despite extensive investigations in earlier cases, the identity of the senders has remained elusive.
The incident briefly disrupted court proceedings and led to moments of anxiety among lawyers, staff and litigants present in the premises. However, the situation was quickly brought under control owing to the prompt response of security personnel. Senior Superintendent of Police Rajnesh Singh said that the police are on high alert to deal with any untoward incident. He appealed to the public to maintain calm and refrain from paying attention to rumours. He also urged citizens not to touch any unidentified object and to immediately inform the police if they notice anything suspicious. Security agencies confirmed that the situation is under control and normalcy is being restored.
