A meeting of newly-constituted Standing and Transport Committee is scheduled at NMC's Headquarters on March 2 to formally select the new Chairpersons. As is already decided, Shivani Wakhre will be formally elected the Chairperson of the Standing Committee. She could be the youngest corporator to head the all important Finance committee. For the other important subject committee in the NMC, Transport Committee, it has a separate budget. The Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has chosen Mangala Khekre to head this committee. She has been elected from Prabhag 34 C to NMC House. In all there are 12 members on the panel of which BJP has eight, MVA has three while Bahujan Muslim Vikas Aghadi has one member.

 

The NMC Secretariat notified the election programme for selecting the new Chairperson of two of the 10 subject committees that were nominated at civic body’s special meeting held the other day. The special meet of Standing Committee will be held at Standing Committee Hall at 2 pm on March 2. Prior to that nomination form for election of Chairperson can be submitted between 1.30 and 2 pm to the Presiding Officer, the Secretary, NMC. Post scrutiny, the nomination forms can be withdrawn.

 

Later, if needed, elections would be conducted. Same procedure is also going to be adopted later for election of Chairperson to Transport Committee. Its meeting is scheduled on March 2 at Standing Committee Hall in civic body headquarters, Civil Lines, at 3.15 pm. In case there is a single nomination for the post of Chairperson then there would be election. BJP has about eight members on the body, followed by three of MVA and one of IUML-AIMIM combine.
