Madhya Pradesh continues to witness extreme weather fluctuations as five simultaneous cyclonic circulations have become active over the State. Over the last 24 hours, these systems triggered heavy winds, rain, and hailstorms across several districts, particularly in the Jabalpur division. While eastern Chhindwara reported significant crop damage due to hailstones, Narmadapuram recorded a peak temperature of 34.2°C, signalling a sharp contrast between localised storms and rising summer heat. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), districts including Balaghat, Chhindwara, Seoni, and Agar witnessed lightning and thunderstorms. Barghat recorded the highest rainfall at 7.3 mm. In eastern Chhindwara, hailstorms have reportedly affected ready-to-harvest wheat and gram crops. The State capital, Bhopal, is expected to have mostly clear skies over the next 24 hours, though light mist may prevail during the early morning hours. The maximum temperature is projected to hover around 32°C, with a minimum of 15°C. Rain or thundershowers are likely to continue in isolated pockets of Chhindwara, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, and Pandhurna over the next 24 hours.

Weather experts attributed this instability to multiple cyclonic circulations currently active over the Arabian Sea, Gujarat coast, Central Maharashtra, Southwest Rajasthan, and Central Pakistan. Furthermore, a Subtropical Westerly Jet Stream is blowing over North India at speeds of 157 km/h. The IMD has issued a warning regarding a fresh western disturbance expected to affect the Western Himalayan region starting March 2. This system is likely to bring another round of light showers to parts of Madhya Pradesh during the first week of March. Additionally, the persistent cloudy weather has raised concerns regarding an Aphid (Mahua) infestation in crops like mustard, radish, and beans. Temperature variations remain stark across the state, with Karaundi (Katni) recording a low of 9.1°C, while Narmadapuram and Khandwa crossed the 34°C mark. The department anticipates a gradual rise of 2-3°C in maximum temperatures across most districts over the next three days.

In light of the persistent thunderstorms and lightning, the administration has issued specific guidelines for public safety. Citizens are strongly advised to remain indoors during periods of lightning and stay away from potential hazards such as tall trees, electric poles, and metallic structures. For the farming community, the advisory emphasises that livestock should be sheltered under permanent roofs instead of being tied in open fields to avoid casualties from lightning strikes.
