The Police Commissionerate, Raipur on Wednesday imposed a two month prohibition on organising rallies, processions, religious marches, sit ins and other forms of public demonstrations on four of the city’s busiest corridors, namely GE Road, Malviya Road, Sadar Bazar Road and MG Road. The order has been issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, with restrictions applicable daily between 9 am and 9 pm. The decision follows a report submitted by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central District, vide reference number Pu.Up./Madhya/Raipur/82/26 dated February 22, 2026. According to the report, these stretches experience heavy traffic flow throughout the day and are critical for routine commuter movement as well as emergency services.

The assessment indicated that public gatherings or processions in these areas could lead to congestion, disruption of essential services and potential law and order concerns. The restricted zones include the stretch of GE Road from Sharda Chowk through Jaistambh Chowk to Shastri Chowk; Malviya Road from Jaistambh Chowk to Kotwali Chowk; Sadar Bazar Road from Kotwali Chowk to Satti Bazar Chowk; and MG Road from Gurunanak Chowk to Sharda Chowk. The Commissionerate has clarified that the prohibition will remain in force for two months from the date of issuance of the order, dated February 25, 2026. During this period, no permission will be granted for rallies, processions or similar public events within the notified areas during the specified hours. Authorities have directed compliance with the order to ensure smooth traffic management and maintenance of public order across the city.
