A tragic road accident on Ratanpur-Raipur National Highway claimed four lives and left another seriously wounded when their SUV was hit by a recklessly driven trailer on late Thursday night. The injured has been admitted in the hospital where his condition is serious.

 

The family from Mungeli district was returning back home after celebrating wedding anniversary of one of their relatives in a dhaba. Takhatpur Police have taken possession of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem. Police have arrested the trailer driver and registered an offence against him. According to information, all the deceased were family members and residents of Mungeli district. On Thursday evening they had gone to a dhaba to celebrate marriage anniversary of one of their relatives and while returning back home on a

 

SUV number CG 04 MQ 4220, a speeding trailer number CG 11 BD 9044 coming from the wrong side collided with the car in full speed, as per the eye witnesses. The impact was so severe that the SUV was mangled leaving the occupants trapped inside. Instantly after the accident local people rushed for rescue and subsequently informed Police and ambulance.

 

Acting swiftly Takhatpur Police reached the spot and following a marathon effort, pulled the bodies of deceased Chatrapal Ratre (37), Vishal Lahare (25), Anmol Lahare (14) and Sonu Miri (28) out of the car. Injured Prakash Ratre (36) was referred to Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) where his condition is critical according to the doctors. The trailer driver instantly after the mishap abandoned his vehicle and tried to give a slip from the spot, but the villagers chased and laid their hands on him.

 

He was later handed over to Police. Takhatpur Police seized the mutilated car and the trailer and registered an offence against the driver. After the accident, there was a traffic jam on the highway for some time. The trailer driver has been taken into custody and is being interrogated. The cause of the accident is also being investigated. It is suspected that speeding and negligence may have been the reasons for the mishap. Further investigations are underway.
