Sanskardhani is intensifying its push to secure a top rank in the Swachh Survekshan, with the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation introducing a fresh set of innovations focused on waste management and community participation. Addressing a press conference, Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh said the city is moving beyond conventional cleanliness drives and adopting creative, sustainable solutions. After the success of the “Kabad Se Kamal” initiative, which transformed scrap into public art installations, the civic body has now turned its attention to temple waste. Under the new initiative, flowers offered at city temples will no longer be discarded as waste. Instead, they will be systematically collected through designated vehicles and transported to the compost plant at Baldevbagh.

There, the flowers are processed using scientific methods to produce herbal gulal, rangoli powder, incense sticks and organic compost. Mayor said the initiative is designed to respect religious sentiments while addressing environmental concerns. Earlier, temple offerings were often dumped in open spaces or water bodies, contributing to pollution. The new system ensures proper processing and prevents contamination of rivers and ponds. The herbal gulal, prepared for the Holi festival, is made by naturally drying and finely grinding flower petals. The powder is blended with a natural base and mild essential oils, ensuring it is chemical-free, skin-friendly and eco-friendly. Municipal Corporation Chairman Rikunj Vij said such innovations will strengthen the city’s performance in Swachh Survekshan. It may be mentioned that the Mayor and Municipal Commissioner also extended Holi greetings to residents and hoped that collective efforts will help Jabalpur achieve a leading position in cleanliness rankings.
