Amid growing public complaints about shortage of domestic LPG cylinders, unchecked use of household gas cylinders in commercial establishments has raised serious concerns, exposing the gap between administrative claims and ground reality. Across several marketplaces, numerous food stalls and small eateries are openly using domestic LPG cylinders for commercial purposes. This practice continues despite repeated warnings and regulations, indicating either negligence or lack of strict enforcement by the authorities concerned. Easy availability of domestic cylinders in commercial kitchens, while many households struggle to get timely refills, has triggered criticism from consumers and local residents. The issue highlights need for stronger monitoring by responsible departments.

Domestic LPG cylinders are subsidised and meant strictly for household use, but their use in commercial settings not only violates regulations but also contributes to artificial shortages. Collector Raghavendra Singh has directed officials from the revenue, police and food departments to conduct surprise inspections of hotels, restaurants and LPG agencies. The aim is to prevent illegal commercial use, hoarding and black-marketing of domestic LPG cylinders. During a recent review meeting, the Collector instructed officials to take strict action against anyone found violating the rules. He emphasised that irregularities or misuse must be dealt with firmly to ensure that domestic LPG cylinders reach genuine household consumers and are not diverted for commercial gain. The administration has indicated that enforcement drives and inspections will be intensified in the coming days to curb misuse and ensure fair distribution of LPG cylinders.
