Nearly four months after the Public Works Department (PWD) completed cementing the road stretch from Raja Rani Square to Bipinkrishna Bose Square, the work remains incomplete, creating difficulties and potential safety hazards for daily traffic. Although the main road surface has been cemented, the adjoining lanes and connecting points have not been properly levelled.
Road leading to Nagpur Press Club
One such spot is the internal lane leading towards the Nagpur Press Club, where motorists face a sharp drop, while entering from the main road. Two-wheeler riders in particular have reported difficulty navigating the uneven edge. Local residents said that, the sudden height difference poses a risk of skidding or loss of balance. In addition to the uneven surface, piles of construction debris such as gravel, broken concrete, and sand continues to lie along both sides of road, further narrowing the usable space for vehicles and pedestrians.
Space between both roads not levelled
A similar issue persists on the stretch between Hislop College and Karodpati Gali, where the road edges and turning points have not been levelled.
The gaps in the central divider used for turning or taking U-turns remain unfinished, making manoeuvring difficult for motorists.
Growing apprehension towards cement roads
Residents say such delays in completing finishing work contribute to growing frustration with cement road projects. While the main construction may be completed, they claim that, levelling adjoining roads, clearing debris, and restoring normal traffic often take months of reminders and complaints.
The problem had earlier been highlighted by ‘The Hitavada’ on February 28, but no action has been taken. Citizens have urged the PWD to complete the remaining work and clear the debris so that the road can be used safely and efficiently by commuters.
