Center for Space and Interplanetary Exploration (COSINE) of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur is organizing a five-day offline workshop on the Chandrayaan Mission and its Applications in collaboration with the ISRO.
Inaugural ceremony of the workshop was held on Monday. Aim of this workshop is to provide participants with knowledge about Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2 missions and their scientific applications. Director of NIT Raipur Dr N V Ramana Rao was the chief giest pof the inaugural programme. Deputy Director of ISRO (Lunar Science and Exploration) S Meghla, Dean (CRRM) and Mentor of COSINE, NIT Raipur Dr Shubhasish Sanyal and Registrar Dr Narendra D Londhe were the special guests on the occasion.
The program began with a welcome address by Dr Himanshu Govil. He highlighted the importance of capacity building through planetary missions. Dr Londhe focused on ISRO’s remarkable achievements in space exploration.
Dr Sanyal emphasized the need for development of space technology in Central India and highlighted that COSINE works to bring together various domains of science and technology on a common platform. Dr N V Ramana Rao spoke about the achievements of the Chandrayaan programme. He shared that these missions provided crucial scientific information regarding the presence of water and other elements on the Moon. He also noted that lunar soil acts as an excellent insulator, which may aid in studying the possibilities of future human habitation. The data from these missions has not only been useful for India but has also contributed significantly to global scientific knowledge, establishing India among the leading nations in space technology, he added. S Meghla stated that during the workshop she will provide detailed insights about lunar missions. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Saurabh Gupta.
