The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) organised a significant demonstration at the Jabalpur Collectorate on Tuesday, advocating for multiple demands concerning students welfare and administrative reforms. Led by State Secretary Rahul Yadav, hundreds of students marched through the streets to protest against the current State of the education system and administrative inaction. Meanwhile, the situation turned volatile as protesters reached close to Collectorate near Ghantaghar chowk. Confrontations between the students and police jawans escalated when the crowd attempted to breach security perimeters. To disperse the gathering and maintain order, police deployed water cannons and engaged in a light baton charge (lathi charge). Many student leaders were taken into custody during the ensuing commotion. Earlier, the protesters raised several critical issues during the demonstration, emphasising the immediate need for the students union elections in Madhya Pradesh.

They demanded for immediate release of pending student scholarships and provision of concessions for students in buses and railways, action against the guilty persons responsible for examination irregularities and a proper investigation into individuals secured Government employment via fraudulent caste certificates. They further demanded to fill vacant posts of professor and staff at Rani Durgavati University and various private colleges, removal of liquor shops operating near educational institutions and a crackdown on schools allegedly operating illegally in rented buildings without proper authorisation. State Secretary Yadav stated that the students’ democratic voice is being suppressed by the prolonged suspension of student union elections. He further noted that the commercialisation of education and lack of permanent staff in colleges severely detrimental to the academic environment. The NSUI leadership warned the administration that if no concrete action is taken regarding these grievances, the organisation will initiate a phased, large-scale movement across the State.
