80 kg suspected adulterated stock of spices seized from workshop in Mukadamganj area

A team of Food Safety Department seized 80 kg suspected adulterated stock of spices at a workshop in Mukadamganj area. Acting on the directives of Collector Raghavendra Singh, Food Safety Administration carried out an inspection at Sharda Grih Udyog in Mukadamganj following a tip-off from the crime branch. According to Food Safety Officer Devendra Dubey, the inspection revealed adulteration in packed whole garam masala.
Instead of poppy seeds (khuskhus), other grains, possibly rajgira and semolina, were being mixed and sold. Besides this, the use of suspicious bay leaves, star anise and cinnamon in the spice mix was suspected.
Samples of the products were collected for testing, and approximately 80 kilograms of the suspected material were seized during the inspection.
Officials informed that the samples will be sent to the State Food Testing Laboratory in Bhopal.
Based on the test results, further legal action will be initiated against the food business operator under relevant sections of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The inspection team was accompanied by Crime Branch Sub-Inspector Santosh Pandey and Head Constable Anand Tiwari.
