A shocking incident of human trafficking came to light where a 19-year-old girl of Gohalpur was sold for Rs 2 lakh and forced to marry a man in Kota, Rajasthan. Adhartal police have succeeded in apprehending a man and a woman involved in human trafficking and started a search for two more accused. SHO of Adhartal police station, Praveen Kumar Kumre informed that investigating the case of a missing girl, reported on December 11, 2025, police learnt that the girl had started working at a clothing shop in Adhartal area about eight months ago. During this time, she came in contact with a man identified as Javed of Hanumantal, who later introduced her to a woman named Poonam of Gohalpur. Soon after, the two gained her trust. Poonam invited the victim to Ujjain on the pretext of visiting the famous Mahakaleshwar Temple.

However, once she reached there, she was held captive for nearly 15 days. During this period, she was reportedly handed over to another man named Ishwar. The ordeal worsened when she was taken by train to Kota, where she was sold to a man named Paras for around Rs 2 lakh. In Kota, she was forced into marriage at a temple and threatened with death if she resisted. She was then confined and subjected to repeated exploitation. After nearly four months, the victim found an opportunity to escape. She managed to return to Jabalpur on March 18 and informed her family about the horrific incident. It was then that the full extent of the crime came to light. Police have arrested two accused Javed and Poonam while Ishwar and Paras are still absconding and a rigorous search is underway.
