In a first for the Second Capital of the State, a 15-storey building for the official residences of senior officers of all the departments is set to get added to the city sykline. This will be the first sky-scrapper residence for the top Government officials. The building will come up in Ravi Nagar where the old quarters exist. Most of these old quarters’ condition is very bad. They are in dilapidated conditions. In fact most quarters are empty as they are not good. People prefer rented house over these quarters. Now some of these quarters will be demolished to make place for the 15-storey building. Janardan Bhanuse, Superintending Engineer, Public Works Department (PWD) had first proposed this multi-storey block (township) for senior officials. He told ‘The Hitavada’, “The building will have two flats at one floor of 15-floor building. It will have 30 flats with 15 each in two blocks. It is approved in the State budget. The work of it is likely to begin in April this year and the building may be ready in next less than two years.

It will have 3BHK flats.” Another PWD official said, “We have various Corporations and their officials don’t have space to live. Secondly Nagpur is expanding and so the number of officials is increasing. IAS and IPS officers including the senior officials of various departments will get accommodation once this building comes.” About two years ago Janardan Bhanuse, had moved the proposal of constructing such residential complex. The proposal remained pending during Maha VIkas Aaghdi Government. But Shinde Government gave the momentum and then Devendra Fadnavis-led Government realised its importance and asked PWD to submit the proposal in new form. It was submitted accordingly and recently presented budget the provision of Rs 43 crore was made. In first plan the cost came about Rs 54 crore. Later on some changes were incorporated and the cost was reduced. Junior Engineer Mukul Deshkar is taking care of the project at present.
