AIADMK-BJP seal seat sharing deal, In Tamil Nadu, AIADMK will contest 178 seats, BJP 27 seats, PMK to contest 18 and AMMK 11
CHENNAI :
THE AIADMK on Monday finalised seat sharing arrangement for key constituents of the NDA alliance including the BJP.
In the presence of leaders of alliance parties including senior BJP leader Piyush Goyal, PMK top leader Anbumani Ramadoss and AMMK chief TTV Dhinakaran, the seat sharing exercise was announced by AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami at party headquarters here.
According to the understanding, the BJP is set to contest 27 seats, PMK 18 and AMMK 11.
The AIADMK will contest the remaining 178 seats.
The agreement was formalised in Chennai with BJP leader Piyush Goyal and AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami signing the electoral pact at the party headquarters. Ahead of the announcement, Goyal expressed confidence about the alliance’s prospects, saying, “Tamil Nadu people will reject DMK-Cong, NDA will sweep Tamil Nadu, Puducherry.
“The people of Tamil Nadu will reject the DMK-Congress combine in the ensuing Assembly election just like the people of Maharashtra, Haryana, Bihar and Delhi did for the INDIA combine,” BJP Tamil Nadu in-charge and Union Minister Piyush Goyal said on Monday.
Goyal, who arrived in Chennai to finalise the seat-sharing among NDA allies, said the AIADMK-led bloc would sweep Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and form the Government.
“We will launch the fight against the evil force DMK and its partners who have taken Tamil Nadu to extreme difficult times due to their incompetent management of economy and due to actions which hurt Tamil culture. People are fed up with the DMK and Congress,” he said.
His remarks come at a crucial juncture, with nomination filing dates nearing and alliance partners under increasing pressure to identify constituencies and finalise candidates.
Political observers believe that Monday’s meeting could mark a turning point in the NDA’s election preparations in Tamil Nadu.
Projecting optimism about the alliance’s prospects, Goyal claimed that there is growing public dissatisfaction with the ruling DMK-Congress alliance.
He asserted that the political mood in the state is shifting and that the NDA is well-positioned to emerge as a credible alternative.
Outlining the alliance’s campaign priorities, he said the NDA, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, would focus on development in key sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, MSMEs, and industry.
He added that job creation, youth empowerment, and support for startups would form the core of the alliance’s agenda.
The outcome of the meeting is expected not only to seal the seat-sharing pact but also to set the stage for a coordinated and aggressive NDA campaign in Tamil Nadu.
