A major mishap was averted in Chhaoni Chowk at Baikunthdham area, Bhilai on Monday morning after a cylinder and other objects caught fire in a house. After hearing the screams of two children locked inside the house, the neighbors rushed to the rescue and took both of them out after breaking the door’s lock. The emergency service personnel too reached the spot and doused the fire from spreading further. A television kept in the house was complete gutted in the mishap and both the children were safe. Sources informed that at around 7 am, the house owner Dileshwari Verma locked her house from outside to prevent her children from coming out and left for work.

 

Few minutes later, the passersby and neighbors heard screams of both the children who told them about the fire in a room of the house. The lock of the gate was then immediately broken by them and fire service personnel were informed. The locals also used sand to bring the fire under control. State Disaster Response Force personnel reached the spot after sometime and brought the LPG cylinder outside after dousing the fire. A television kept in the house was charred and the fire was prevented from spreading further. Cause of the fire remained unknown and it was being investigated. Timely intervention by the locals and SDRF helped avert a major mishap which could have proved deadly for both the children present inside and neighbors in the densely populated locality.
