VETERAN shuttler of the city Sharad Mahajan delivered an impressive performance at the Yonex Sunrise Masters National Badminton Tournament held at the Manohar Parrikar Multipurpose Sports Complex in Goa. Competing in the 70+ category, Mahajan clinched a silver medal in men’s doubles and secured a bronze medal in men’s singles, adding yet another feather to his illustrious career. Mahajan, who is a current State champion in the 70+ age category and has also finished runner-up at the national championship, showcased remarkable consistency and fighting spirit throughout the tournament. In the men’s singles 70+ event, his journey was noteworthy. In the first round, he defeated Pradeep Dhond (Goa) 21-15, 23-21.
 
In the pre-quarterfinal, he overcame Chandigarh’s Anil Kumar Sondhi 21-18, 21-18. In the quarter-final, he beat Dehradun’s Sudhir Kumar Goyal 21-14, 21-19. He went down in the semis to Philip Benzy 9-21, 10-21 to win a bronze. In the 70+ men’s doubles event, partnering Satpal Angurala (Haryana), the pair delivered an excellent performance to secure silver medal. They began with a tough win over Abraham Kurakose and Chandra Sena, followed by convincing victories against Nageswara Rao and Ganesh Kumar Pasam, and Anil Mehrotra-Anil Kumar Sondhi pair. They dominated the semi-finals against Kamal Hasan Abidi and Kailash Prabhakar but lost a closely fought final to Abdul Lateef and Clefend Mendez 21-18, 11-21, 15-21. Bankers Sports Council officials congratulated Mahajan for the triumph.
