NMC committed to completing 24x7 project at the earliest, reiterated Chairperson WWD’s Special Committee Divya Dhurde
The Water Works Department (WWD) special committee of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) issued directions to Orange City Water (OCW) that inflated water bills issued to consumers be promptly corrected. The maiden meeting of the committee held at NMC Standing Committee Hall in Headquarters on Wednesday discussed the water issues that dominated the proceedings of first regular meet of new House.
Later, briefing the newspersons, committee Chairperson Divya Dhurde said, the OCW officials were asked to explain as to how citizens got five times the bills of their actual usage.
Dhurde directed the administration to set up special cells in 10 zones to redress complaints about excess bills.
She also said, the other issue that came up for the discussion related to complaints about polluted water.
The officials of NMC's Water Works Department (WWD) were issued instructions to look after the issue and take corrective steps and step up co-ordination with OCW.
Dhurde said, NMC is committed to completing 24x7 project at the earliest and supply of clean and safe drinking water to citizens. Also the officials were told to take prompt steps to plug the leakages. Similarly, the old meters, which are more than 5-years old should be promptly replaced, she added.
The Committee also was briefed by Sanjay Waikar, Executive Engineer, WWD, about the arrangements for supply of drinking water.
Waikar said, the city is supplied drinking water through 109 water tanks.
The city gets raw water from Kanhan and Pench and also Navegaon Khairy and the same is then processed at Gorewada Tank.
It may be recalled, corporators assailed NMC administration for its failure to complete 24x7 project in the mandated 10 years time period. They also took a dig at ruling party that directives of Mayor were ignored by OCW and took potshots at administration.
Dhure briefing newspersons stated that the committee took review of public wells in the city and said, directions were issued to the administration to clean them as they can be used for meeting increased demand for water during the summer.
The meeting was attended by committee members including Vijay alias Pintu Zalke, Yogesh Pachpor, Ramdas Sahu, Sachin Naik, Sheshrao Gotmare, Tasneem Parveen, all corporators, and from administration Shewta Banerjee, Superintending Engineer, PHE, other engineers and representatives of OCW.
