A charred body was found after a massive fire broke out at Funingo Fun Club, situated around 20 kms from Jabalpur under the jurisdiction of Bargi police station, on Thursday. The deceased is believed to be Ashok Maravi, who has been missing since the fire incident took place on March 25 and the confirmation will be made only after DNA test. Jabalpur Collector Raghavendra Singh has constituted a joint team of officials from the revenue, electricity and police departments for further investigation into the case. The team has been directed to conduct a detailed probe and submit its report within three days. The fire broke out at around 6 pm on Wednesday in the dome area of the club while welding work was underway. Sparks from the welding machine reportedly ignited the blaze, which quickly spread and engulfed the entire structure. Following the incident, one of the club employees, Ashok Maravi, went missing. Co-workers informed that he got trapped in an iron framework while trying to escape the fire. Police and fire brigade teams rushed to the spot after receiving information.

Four fire tenders managed to douse the flames for several hours before bringing the fire under control. Initial investigation suggests that the fire may have been caused due to short circuit. Meanwhile, the club operator Vasu Gupta fell ill after the incident and has been admitted to a private hospital. In further investigation on Thursday, investigation team found that club spread over nearly two acres which was almost completely destroyed, with only ashes and charred structures remaining. It was found that the club remained abandoned due to Navratri period and ongoing school examinations. One of the employees of club named Ashok Maravi was welding iron springs when a spark caused the fire. It is suspected that he got electrocuted and trapped within the iron structure. According to Bargi police, the missing employee Ashok Maravi is still untraceable. The recovered remains have been sent to Medical College for examination and samples will be sent for DNA testing to ascertain the identity. Bargi police have registered a case while further investigation is underway to ascertain reason behind the fire incident and identifying the skeleton.
