The Bhopal Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) anti-encroachment squad conducted a massive drive on Thursday to clear illegal occupations from city roads, footpaths, and public spaces. Following the directives of Municipal Commissioner Sanskriti Jain, the operation focused specifically on the Boat Club area along the Upper Lake.
Illegal carts, counters, tin boxes, and stools obstructing roads and footpaths were removed, resulting in the seizure of three trucks of miscellaneous material. Along with the Boat Club, the squad also targeted major markets and busy intersections, seizing goods kept outside shops and unauthorized carts on the streets.
During the campaign, teams cleared encroachments from key areas including Kolar JK Hospital, New Market, TT Nagar,
Rani Kamalapati Railway Station, Saket Nagar, Link Road No. 1 and 2, Shahpura Lake, and DB Mall. The operation resulted in the seizure of 07 electric scales, 12 manual scales, 30 chairs, 20 stand boards, 01 folding table, 01 cart, and 02 large water cans.
Additionally, public spaces were cleared at Bharat Mata Chouraha, Suraj Nagar, Neelbadh, Jawahar Chowk, Jahangirabad, Teela Jamalpura, Nariyal Kheda, Lalghati, Karond Chouraha, and Bhopal Hospital. The municipal corporation has stated that this drive will continue across all zones to ensure smooth traffic flow and convenience for pedestrians.
