BILASPUR is poised to take a significant upgrade in urban infrastructure as the city prepares to introduce Piped Natural Gas (PNG) for domestic and commercial use. Adani Total Gas Limited has nearly completed the development of the city’s PNG network and is set to begin consumer registrations starting next month.
A gas transmission plant has already been established in the Kachar area, with natural gas supply to the facility successfully initiated. The company has laid an extensive pipeline network connecting the plant to various parts of the city, marking the completion of a robust supply chain. The next phase will focus on providing PNG connections to consumers.
According to company officials, the registration process will commence next month, with connections being issued immediately thereafter. In the initial phase, domestic households will be prioritised, followed by rapid expansion to commercial establishments.
Currently, Bilaspur residents are facing challenges due to irregular LPG cylinder supply and shortages. Hotels and restaurants, in particular, are struggling to secure consistent commercial gas supplies.
In this context, PNG is expected to provide much-needed relief. With PNG connections, consumers will no longer need to rely on cylinder refills or worry about supply disruptions. Each household will be equipped with a gas meter, ensuring billing based strictly on actual consumption.
The system is designed to be transparent and user-friendly, similar to electricity billing. Future upgrades will include smart meters, allowing users to recharge their gas usage like mobile services.
PNG is widely regarded as safer than LPG and is expected to be 10–20% more economical. It also eliminates the need for cylinder storage, transportation, and booking, thereby saving space and simplifying household management. For commercial establishments such as hotels, dhabas, and restaurants, PNG will ensure uninterrupted gas supply, smoother operations, and
reduced costs. Chandramani Tiwari, Vice President of Adani Total Gas Limited, stated that the company has introduced easy and flexible payment options to make PNG accessible to all sections of society. He emphasized that PNG is not only cost-effective but also safer and environmentally friendly.
