The proactive community policing initiative, ‘Jansamvad’, spearheaded by Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar, has begun showing significant results. Acting on a tip-off from a vigilant citizen, a police team conducted a midnight raid near the ‘Bhoot Bungalow’ area on Friday, arresting five suspects, including a married couple, while they were allegedly finalising a plan to commit a major dacoity.
The operation led to the recovery of a substantial cache of sharp-edged weapons along with illicit narcotics, including Ganja and Charas. Preliminary investigations suggest the gang was targeting a local liquor outlet. Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar has been conducting nightly dialogues with residents across various neighbourhoods to bolster urban security and peace. It was during one such outreach that a citizen alerted the authorities about suspicious individuals armed with weapons gathering near the abandoned
Bhoot Bungalow’ premises.
Following the lead, a police team cordoned off the area and apprehended five individuals, including a woman. A thorough search of the site led to the seizure of knives and other specialised tools intended for the heist.
The primary suspect has been identified as Ejaz Khan. He was arrested along with his wife and three other associates. Interrogation revealed that Khan had recently travelled outside the city specifically to procure the weaponry used by the gang. The group had assembled at the spot to execute a strategic plan to rob a nearby liquor shop before the police intervened.
In addition to the weapons, police recovered 599 grams of Ganja and 106 grams of Charas from Ejaz Khan’s possession. The total market value of the seized narcotics is estimated to be approximately Rs 65,000.
