In a transformative move for Malwa region’s connectivity, newly upgraded Terminal-1 at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar International Airport was officially inaugurated this Sunday. Developed with an investment of approximately Rs 50 crore, the facility is a strategic effort to position Indore prominently on the global aviation map while providing residents with world-class travel amenities. The extensive redevelopment has seen the terminal’s capacity and infrastructure significantly enhanced to meet international benchmarks. Spanning nearly 6,000 square meters, the facility is now capable of handling an annual passenger load of 15 lakh (1.5 MMPA). This expansion is designed to accommodate the growing influx of travelers with seamless efficiency, ensuring that the airport remains a robust gateway for both domestic and international traffic. To ensure a smooth passenger experience, the terminal has been equipped with 14 modern check-in counters and a revamped seating area for over 300 travelers. The technical infrastructure is now capable of managing a peak flow of 400 passengers per hour, drastically reducing congestion during high-traffic windows. Additionally, the project includes expanded parking for 150 four-wheelers and the introduction of sophisticated VIP lounges, blending functional utility with premium comfort.

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, while dedicating the terminal to the public, emphasized that this upgrade is more than just a construction project; it is a catalyst for the region’s economic and social growth. By integrating modern design with high-capacity handling, the Rs 50 crore project ensures that Indore’s aviation infrastructure keeps pace with its reputation as one of India’s fastest-growing urban centers. The Quality Council of USA has officially honored Indore’s aviation facilities with a prestigious Quality Certificate of Registration. During the inauguration, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav formally handed over the international certification to airport officials. Chief Minister while addressing the gathering, announced a vision to establish a commercial airport every 150 kilometers across the state. This strategic “connectivity grid” is designed to ensure that no region remains isolated from the national economic mainstream, with further targets to develop an airstrip every 75 kilometers and a functional helipad every 45 kilometers. By expanding the State’s current infrastructure to a total of 10 airports-including upcoming projects in Ujjain and Shivpuri.
