Massive fire broke out in two shops situated at Indira Market, Durg on late Sunday night causing loss to the tune of lakhs of rupees. The fire started from the footwear shop situated on the ground floor and spread on the fancy store situated upstairs. Footwear and other items kept in both the shops were almost completely gutted and senior police officials and fire extinguishing teams from State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Bhilai Steel Plant too rushed to the spot. Flames coming out from both the shops panicked the owners of adjoining shops and large number of people also gathered on the spot as soon as the news spread. District Commandant (SDRF) Nagendra Kumar Singh informed that at about 10 pm on Sunday, fire broke out in Raubdar footwear situated on the ground floor and soon went out of control.
 
Another shop situated on the first floor also came in its contact and belongings of both the shops were almost completely gutted in the fire mishap. Around 15 fire tenders were used to bring the fire under control in a span of three to four hours. The fire fighters had to make rigorous efforts to control the flames and the personnel somehow entered into the building to prevent the fire from spreading into the adjoining shops. SDRF sources said that belongings of both the shops were almost completely charred while the exact cause of fire remained unknown. Though no loss to life occurred, the owners of the shops suffered loss to the tune of lakhs as huge property was destroyed. Durg Municipal Corporation on the other hand has appealed the shopkeepers to take necessary precautions to prevent occurrence of such mishaps. )
