SHOURYA Ambone bagged the title of the Nagpur District Rapid Selection Chess Championship organised by Chess Association Nagpur in association with GH Raisoni Sports & Cultural Foundation and Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation at GH Raisoni College, Rian Tower, Mangalwari on Sunday.
Vishwaditya Awasthi, with a score of 7½ points, won the Nagpur District Blitz Chess Championship at the same
venue.
In the rapid selection event, Shourya on his way to title scored 7½ points out of 8. Pratham Gupta scored 7 points to get the second position. Yuval Sunil Mohurle also scored 7 points but was placed third in merit list based on tie-break scores.
In blitz selection chess championship, Vishwaditya with a score of 7½ points out of 8 finished a clear first. Sharma Sai with 7 points finished second.
Two players namely Sahajveersingh Maras and Shourya Ambone scored 6½ points and were placed third and fourth respectively based on their tie-break scores.
Prizes were distributed at the hands of Shekhar Suryawanshi, Superintendent, Central GST, ace athlete, coach and organiser. Bhushan Shriwas, Secretary, Chess Association Nagpur and FA Shiva Iyer, Chief Arbiter were seated on the dais. SS Soman conducted the proceedings and proposed a vote of thanks.
Prizes, worth Rs 10000 for each group, were sponsored by GH Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation.
Top finishers in rapid and blitz group were awarded cash prizes along with trophies. Medals were given to top finishers in Under-19, 17, 15, 13, 11, 9, 7 and veteran age categories. Medals were also distributed to specially-abled participants.
The event was organised under the patronage of Sunil Raisoni, Chairman, Raisoni Group, Dr Mrinal Naik, Director (Projects) and Amit Gandhare, Director (Public Relations) Raisoni Group.
Iyer was assisted by FA Amit Tembhurne, SNA Prayas Ambade, SNA Shishir Indurkar, SNA Shrikant Bagde and Akhil Rambhad.
